Writer/Director Rodney March and Producer/Composer Karel Segers developed the story for TIN CAN HEART over six months before submitting it for funding consideration to the Australian Film Commission on 1 September 2006 under Strand T.

After a meeting with the team, over a video link between the AFC offices in Sydney and Melbourne, the AFC invested AUD$80,000 in the project.

Contracting was concluded early in 2007 and production on the film started officially on 1 April 2007 for a delivery on 31 May 2008.

The animation software used for this project is the latest version of Autodesk's 3D Studio Max.
